Ready for Boating Season? Get your Boat Ready Too!

Before getting your boat out on the water, it is important to make sure it is clean. A clean boat not only feels better to ride in, but it can also improve your boat’s speed! Our boat lift company at the Lake of The Ozarks knows you’re itching to get out on the water so we’re offering some tips to help prep your boat for an awesome season ahead!

De-winterizing the Boat

Every boat has different parts, so de-winterizing it will look different based on the kind of boat. However you got your boat ready for the cold months, you must now reverse to prepare the boat for the summer season!

Ensure That the Safety Equipment is in Order

Using the boat is a blast, but the most important aspect is the safety of you and your passengers. Check and make sure all safety equipment is in working order. Test your life jackets and make sure they can float, to guarantee no issues will occur when you need them. Do the same with any other floatation devices.

Check on the Hull

Check the boat for any scratches or scrapes that may have occurred as it was in storage. Hopefully, there are none, but it needs to be addressed before taking the boat out. Scratches have the potential to cause rusting on your boat and lead to long-term damage to your hull. You will also want to check all exterior parts of the boat.

Anchor & Pumps

Heavy equipment like the anchor and pumps, need to also be investigated for rust or other problems. Make sure the anchor can easily move and the windlass is not having any trouble moving either. Take some time to check your boat’s pumps as well. This is key to preventing the pooling of water while riding.

Electrical Systems

Make sure any battery-operated systems are running smoothly on your boat.  First, check the deep cycle battery has a good charge, as everything runs off this main battery.
Now, check the wiring of the boat. Guaranteeing all wires are properly connected and secure.
Test any other technology to see if it all functions well.

Motor & Engine

Make sure the motor runs strongly. Get in and turn the motor on and off. You want to test this a few times to make sure you do not get stranded out on the lake!
