How to Keep Your Boat Clean This Summer!

The sun and harsh weather conditions can affect your boat leaving it dirty and damaged if not cared for properly. The best way to keep your boat in a pristine condition is to consistently clean both the interior and exterior of your boat. If you don’t plan on using your boat for a period of time, it is safe and recommended to use a boat lift. Storing your boat on a boat lift from Poly Lift Boat Lifts, prevents the damage that natural elements will do to your boat. Here are some cleaning tips we recommend you regularly apply as part of your boat care routine.

How frequently should you wash the Exterior of Your Boat?

With a fiberglass boat, we recommend washing it or at the least, wiping it down every single time the boat is pulled out of the water. This will ensure that your boat is not stained from the dirty lake water. We also recommend, wiping down the engine. It is best to do this so that you can avoid rusting, staining, and caked-on debris.

For an aluminum boat, it is safe to use a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water or car wash soap. A seasonal wax coding is also advised at the beginning of each season. Waxing the exterior of your boat prevents oxidation from occurring and ruing the gel protective coating that protects your boat from the sun.

Is It Necessary to Clean the Interior of My Boat Frequently?

Keeping the interior of your boat clean prevents unnecessary cracking and corrosion. If you have carpet or cushions in your boat, make sure to vacuum it to remove debris and particles that build-up due to the nature of boating. It should also be wet and cleaned with soap and water.
How should I care for my windshield?
A way to prevent those frustrating water spots off the windshield is applying a marine water repellent safe for plexiglass/glass.

What about the deck?

Rinse off the deck of your boat frequently to avoid having to scrub down sticky spills or dirt that accumulate over time. Scrubbing your deck is recommended as needed, make sure to use a medium-stiff deck brush and boat soap.

Storage

The weather conditions can leave an unwelcome effect on your boat, if not cared for correctly. When you store your boat on a Boat Lift, it protects your precious vessel from damages that comes with leaving it in the lake water for extended periods of time.

Now that you read about these easy tips to keep your boat clean and fresh, you can use the extra time to cruise the lake with your friends and family! Enjoy, we will see you out there!
